Color on the scene

Attempting a scene with some color

I have been trying to expand my drawing into styles and subjects I have not practiced much to push my boundaries. One thing I have not done a ton of is drawing landscapes and doing color pencil work and so I figured to take a shot at freehand drawing a random scene from google image search and coloring it with a set of cheapo color pencils.

Scenes scenes scenes…

Perspective with vanishing points on page.

I have been doing a bit too much drawing from reference image, So to get some variation in my drawing I decided to draw some scenes from imagination and only use reference image to get some ideas as how to fill in the fine details.

Inspired by a tree in Manito Park, imaginary scene.
Wanted to just make a endless hallway drawing, imaginary scene.
Mixing some random elements, imaginary scene.
Little more planned out composition, Imaginary scene.

Working in GIMP

Aiming to make some interesting stuff in GIMP

I have used Photoshop, Inkscape, Blender a fair amount and I wanted to get into the details of using GIMP. I set off experimenting with all the filters and some random ideas.

The result
100% GIMP filters and tools
Inspired by the LENIA the cellular automata
Sphere of blood
Intended to be a spooky looking clay ball creature
Experiment with gradients
Aimed to make something that looks like a rorschach test

Drawing insects

Drawing a praying mantis perched on a rock

I have done a lot of quick sketches of mammals, fish even birds but not as many insects. So today I decided I should give a stab at drawing a preying mantis. I just googled praying mantis and attempted to freehand sketch the following reference image.

The result
Pencil and paper sketch scanned in and touched up in GIMP
The reference image.

Old pixel works

Drawing pixel art

A retro art still present in modern times

A lot of people can still remember pushing the cartridge into there Super Nintendo and seeing the TV screen flash to life, Some of us even got into using tools like RPG Maker to make games similar to what we loved playing on the console. Part of journey of making a RPG Maker game is learning the ins and outs of Pixel Art, Although it’s been some time since I was last obsessing over pixels I felt I should share some of my old work in the domain of Pixel Art.

Drawing Chihiro and Haku

Drawing anime

Drawing a scene from Spirited Away

One of the most inspiring animated films for me was Spirited Away, I can still remember the first time seeing the wind blowing thru the grass, The lovely expressions of the characters and the fantastical spirit world. I felt inspired to draw the scene where Chihiro and Haku share rice balls while she attempts to cope with being all alone in the scary spirit world bathhouse.

the result
Pencil and paper sketch, Inked with felt tip marker.

Drawing Hisoka

Drawing anime

Drawing Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter.

The classic evil clown character has been present in a number of popular games and shows, one example being Kefka from Final Fantasy. Of the evil clown characters I am aware of, one of my favorite designs is Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter. If you are not aware of this character a quick summary might be a self-serving, self-absorbed, and selfish person with an insatiable love for spilling the blood of powerful fighters. So I decided I would like to look at some reference images and attempt to draw him.
